Ever since the arrival of Android 2.1 with Nexus One, there has been a lot of talk regarding the Android 2.1 update for other Android devices such as Droid Eris, CLIQ and so on. Well there is some good news for you folks living in US. All American Android handsets will be getting the Eclair update. Although there would be some limitations for individual devices which we discuss after the jump.

The first thing that should be noted here is that even though all devices will be getting the firmware update, a few of them will be missing some features such as the live wallpaper. Secondly, certain devices will require a clean sweep or wipe to get the much awaited update. Some mobile phone owners will have to use the PC installation option for the update.

Q2 2010 is the expected time frame for the update roll out. Carriers and cell-phone manufacturers are in discussion to decide whether to go for the OTA option or switch to the PC tethered option.
