Is Anonymous responsible for PSN blackout?
What could be more doleful for gamers than this news? ‘PlayStation Network goes down and will take around one or two days to bring the complete service back’ mentioned by the Official Blog of PlayStation yesterday.
It has been more than 24 hours now, that PlayStation Engineers are busy in investigating the cause of PSN outage, and until now they have not shared any pleasant news with PS users, it appears that the Engineers are totally flopped in delivering any satisfactory sign to the despondent gamers. This outage has affected millions of users who couldn’t even pass a single hour without playing on their favorite online network. A large number of news websites, blogs, forums have been discussing this serious issue, and many among them are pointing their fingers towards the deadly force of internet that is called ‘Anonymous’.
So what do you think, Anonymous who claim themselves as ‘Masters of Cybernetic Warfare’ is behind this deadly intrusion?
As they did it before, now they have done it again. Yes, you are absolutely right, this heinous act is committed by one and only lethal force of internet, Anonymous. In one of their recent updates at Facebook Page, Anonymous claims the responsibility of PlayStation Network outage by posting:
Take a break from online gaming for a while…..it will help your skills, your health, and your emotional levels, which by the way are a bit out of order if they are being shackled by the PSN being down. We have no qualms about our actions, even though it may affect fellow anonymous or supporters… we hope they understand the bigger picture.
Do you think this action performed by the Anonymous against gamers most entertaining portal will leave any good signs for their admirers?
While many people on internet support Anonymous for what they previously did, for example their past target on PSN for George Hotz popularly known as ‘GeoHot’ (who by his hacking skills opened the free doors to PS3 development) was lauded by countless people, but causing devastation without any reason and shattering the emotions of many impassioned gamers by bombarding their biggest online gaming network is of course not creditable.
What is your opinion on this issue? Are you in favor of Anonymous in hacking and attacking PlayStation network (which is still not accessible), or are you standing in the queue of those disturbed gamers, who are being intensely troubled by this action? Its not a ddos attack. look at the response times of the routers right above the psn servers(worldwide). They dont look in the least bit lagged to me.

I’m having very mixed feelings about this situation:
-I run an army (most people would call it a clan) which uses the PSN for most of our communication and it’s something that we take very seriously. The goals of my army have both anti-political and pro-choice connotations just like the views of Anonymous. I do feel a share in the ire aimed toward the people running the show at the PSN because they’ve done me wrong three times in the past few months….
-First they left me hanging on an issue that I’m STILL having problems with because they couldn’t resolve it. I have a PS3 that can access PS Home when it’s wired but can rarely access it properly when used wirelessly. They couldn’t figure it out because they said it should be able to either access it all the time or not at all. The fact that it could access it around 10% of the time left them completely baffled. I battled the problem for 2 weeks with the PSN and my ISP but neither could resolve it. They gave up so I had to give up too.
-A few weeks later I got banned by the PSN for an argument I got into with some loser on PS Home. He was going around and either complimenting or berating people based on the appearance of their avatar’s cyber apparel. He started calling me the usual ignorant, racial slurs when he finally got around to my part of the room. The worst thing I called him was gay and I got banned for
what was supposed to be 7 days.
-Next, the 7 days for some reason turned out to be 8 days. Probably because I called them and actually voiced an opinion that they couldn’t deny. So because everything I said to them was right and they couldn’t find a response that would make an sense (I was seriously leaving these people speechless on the phone) they were immature enough to just suspend my account for an extra day. Keep in mind that all of this happened RIGHT after they couldn’t solve my PS Home problem with the wireless PS3 that I was calling them about (and eventually SCREAMING at them about) for 2 weeks straight. Also keep in mind that I’ve probably spent over $10,000 on Sony products in my life thus far.
-Even though I do hate the policies behind the banning features of the PSN and I definitely hate how they couldn’t even resolve my connection issues (which is the MAIN thing they should get paid to do), I still depend on them to communicate and recruit with my internet army and my family also depends on it for the majority of our entertainment. I hate but am dependent on the PSN for ALOT of things.
-Before 4/22/11 I had never heard of Anonymous, so there is the first mission accomplished for them. After I saw my very first Anonymous video I was in total shock and awe. I had seen movies about stuff like this but I didn’t think it was for real. I took my kids to turn in their homework today (I home-school them) and their 50-something year old teacher knew what Anonymous was already! At this point I was WAY more curious and I ended up watching Anonymous videos all freakin day long when we got home! I really do respect Anonymous and what they stand for and I could even find myself becoming a supporter IF THE FREAKIN PSN WOULD JUST TURN BACK ON ALREADY!!!!!!! You have made your point, enough is enough. People who didn’t know about you before know about you now, you thoroughly embarassed Sony and you flexed your own power. Isn’t everything acomplished? Yes you are causing them to lose out on tons of money by shutting people like me out from our Friday night entertainment, but you are also starting to piss off the same type of people who would loyally support you. I was willing to sacrifice for the Anonymous cause on Wednesday and Thursday, but ruining my hard-earned weekends is not tolerable. It will not be forgiven or forgotten. I pay $8 per month to be able to fall asleep to Netflix and now I can’t even do that either. Anonymous said they wouldn’t attack gamers. They also said they believe when people pay for something then they should be able to use it how they wish. Anonymous has made a very eye-opening point, but now they are going too far and trampling my expensive mood and my freedom to use products I have paid for. They are now doing to me what they claimed to target Sony for doing. If Anonymous let’s us play today then I will support them. If they don’t I will hate them. With great power comes great responsibility. I pay $60 per month for my internet connection. Is Anonymous going to pay for that? I just bought SOCOM 4 and Mortal Kombat the day before they did this. UGH!!!!!!!!!!!

Well i am a disturbed PSN User, but
i am not against this attack (if it´s really an attack and not just a problem implementing STEAM).
SONY knows very well that “business is war”, it has often acted so (e.g. MemoryStick, ATTRAC, the Sony Rootkit). Companys in general often do very bad things unless you force them to stop; that´s part of the capitalistic-system.
And making them stop will always influence the costumers, too. (frreing the slaves made cotton more expensive; implementing workers rights, giving them a free sunday made products more expensive, forcing companies to recycle their toxic waste made products more expensive). Even the methods to prevail those goals will usually influence the costumers. We all accepted strikes as a valid method to enforce workers rights. And this is really a minior inconvinience compared to strike.
Of coarse strikes are legal and this attack is illegal. But strikes were illegal too, as well as is was illegal for women to vote, as well as it was illegal to be homosexual. (In germany there was a time it was illegal to do any business when you were jewish).
So beeing illegal does not mean beeing wrong.
In fact, a lot of laws were passed because those who made it didn´t care, didn´t know better or were bribed by those who wanted this law for their own purpose. (when it comes to the digital world, you can actually see that lawmakers in the whole world are totally uninformed and don´t understand the subject at all.[don´t just trust me on that, get a copy of your local telecommunication-laws and see for your self]).
To sum it up: this is an act of civil disobedience, slightly exaggerated but still justified.
So dear SONY,
First: other companies pay people who hack their systems for their knowledge. This seems to be the better way.
Second: you see people want to do other stuff with your product. Go the Apple-way, create an App-Store for the Playstation and earn money with it, while turning 90% of the hackers into business-partners!

Anonymous didn’t do, PSN is just looking to blame someone because they would be the most likely to do it.

Are you referring to the PS Blackout that was in April? I believe it was that 23 year old kid who got into the system and messed everything up. Heard he went to Mexico to hide but never heard about if he was caught or not.
