In the latest news from the cyber world, it is reported that Anonymous, the internet hacktivist group has taken down several Malaysian government websites.

anonymous hacks Malaysian websites

The industry regulator Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission reported that the attacks carried out by the Anonymous compromised almost fifty one government and forty other websites, that were unable to access for long hours. However, government officials ensured that no personal and financial data was compromised during the attacks.

The attacks were carried out as a punishment for the Malaysian government because of imposing internet censorship and blocking WikiLeaks the whistle-blower website in their country. Anonymous already warned Malaysian government by stating:

The Internet is here for freedom, without fear of government interference. We fear that if you make further decisions to take away human freedom. We are obligated to act fast and have no mercy.

So, its not only Malaysia but Spain, Tunisia, Egypt and India are also in the list of countries targeted by Anonymous. It seems like cyber-war has begun, where Anonymous and state governments stand either sides.
