Get ready to be shocked by this news. Amazon has acquired Zappos an ecommerce footwear company. This event was confirmed by an open letter from Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh. In that letter Hsieh said:
This morning, our board approved and we signed what’s known as a “definitive agreement”, in which all of the existing shareholders and investors of Zappos (there are over 100) will be exchanging their Zappos stock for Amazon stock. Once the exchange is done, Amazon will become the only shareholder of Zappos stock.
Officially the deal was for $807 million in Amazon stock, and $40 million in cash and restricted stock. The deal’s worth has been increased to more than $900, thanks to the rise in Amazon’s stock value.
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said:
Zappos is a customer focused company. We see great opportunities for both companies to learn from each other and create even better experiences for our customers.
Have you guys used presentation editor of Google Docs. Did you want to use tables in your Google Presentations?. Well good news guys this option is now possible. The presentation editor in Google Docs gets a much needed change: Now you can insert tables into your presentation.
This newly added option does not prompt you to input the required number of rows and columns for creating the table. Just like Microsoft Office PowerPoint, Google Presentations provides you with the cell selection menu. However Google Presentation moved one stop further. In order to insert additional rows no need to use the Table menu, after selecting the table, move your curson to one of the rows and you will see the plus(+) sign. Just click on it and you will have an added row. Same practice for inserting a column, only this time you need to move your cursor towards a particular column. To select a row or column, similar practice is carried out but select it by clicking on the arrow.
This is how Google explains it:
Once you’ve inserted a table into your presentation, you can easily add, select, and resize rows and columns with a single click , format and align text across the table, and set background colors for your cells and borders. Your rows will grow to fit content as you type it. Collaborators can even make edits to the same table simultaneously. Now, when you import tables from Microsoft Office PowerPoint they’ll show up as editable tables in Google Docs
Wait, there is one more feature and this one is a cool one : A play button for embedded presentations. After clicking on the play button, the presentation advances the slides for you automatically. The default time for moving to the next slide is 3 seconds. If you desire you can modify it as well.
The newly designed interface of Google Docs which is slowly being rolled out to all the users suggests something quite interesting : Google Docs is moving closer towards an online storage. Stick with me for a while and the reasons will become evident to you as you read the post. First clue was the replacement of PDFs in Items By Menu with Files.
This replacement suggests one thing apparently which is users can upload any type of file to Google Docs. Besides that Google Docs also incorporated the advance search options. These options are similar to the ones available in Gmail and include:
- exact phrase matching (“todo list”)negative matching (summer -trip)
- Disjunctive matching (budget OR invoice)
- Built-in labels (is:starred, is:hidden)
- Collaborators: to find the documents shared by a person let’s say Michael Robinson, you need to search for: from:email@example.com, assuming that’s his email address. The problem is that you need to know the email address, since the operator doesn’t support (partial) names.
As I mentioned previously, it seems that Google Docs will allow its users to upload any type of files in the near future. Among them, some file will be editable, some will be viewable online while others can be used for the sole purpose of storing them online (PDF files happens to be one of the examples).
A question that arises the types and number of files that Google Docs will support. I hope that the answer to this question will be made available to us very soon.

Well the rumors are no longer there since Microsoft has confirmed the news regarding the availability of Family Package. I’m happy to confirm that we will indeed be offering a family pack of Windows 7 Home Premium (in select markets) which will allow installation on up to 3 PCs.
