The power of social network just continues to amaze us. A few hours back, we informed you about Facebook becoming a major traffic provider for web portals. To top that, sources report that Facebook is establishing itself as a major search engine in US market. Before you get too excited, you would be interested to know that it hasn’t topped Google just yet. But it has enjoyed an impressive success in that field from December 2009 to January 2010.
With reference to comScore stats, Google still holds 2/3 of US search engine market. Back in December 09, it had 65.7% share which dropped a bit to 65.4% in January 2010. Facebook was the source of nearly 400 million searches for the first month of 2010 which presents a 13% increase when compared with last year’s December. Yahoo and Bing are up there as well with shares of 17% and 10.7% respectively. Interestingly, Bing has had an impressive January since it experienced an 11% increase over the previous month.
But the highlight of this development is without doubt the impressive surge in Facebook’s search engine market share. This pretty much explains the relocation of search box to a central spot in Facebook’s latest redesign.
