A few hours back, we informed you about Facebook Chat going live for almost all Instant Messaging clients. All this of course is possible due to Facebook adopting the Jabber standard. Which means you Mac users can use Facebook Chat in your iChat app. The question is how to do this? This post will assist you in doing just that. Steps listed after the jump.

Install Facebook Chat in iChat

  1. Launch iChat.
  2. Open iChat Menu.
  3. Select Preferences….
  4. Select the Accounts Tab.
  5. Click the + button located at the bottom of the window, to add a new account. ( Account Setup screen will appear)
  6. In the Account Type dropdown, select Jabber.
  7. Enter username in the Account Name field based on the following format username@chat.facebook.com where username will be replaced by your Facebook username/vanityname.
  8. Enter your Password.
  9. Expand the Server Options
  10. Set the Server to chat.facebook.com
  11. Enter 5222 as the Port value.
  12. Click the Done button to continue.

Voila, you are done. Notice you will see a new account in the list on the left side of the window. Do let us know if this guide proved helpful for you.
