Facebook Yesterday announced a few proposed changes to the Statements of Rights and Responsibilites. Among them one point caught my eye and was quite interesting. Facebook has proposed to prohibit users from profiting through the use of their Facebook profile and more specifically from selling their status updates to advertisers. Section 4.2 states:

4. Registration and Account Security
2. You will not use your personal profile for your own commercial gain (such as selling your status update to an advertiser).

The reason why Facebook wants to do this is quite simple. The popular social network wants to stop companies like Magpie and Twittad from doing a similar thing that they did on Facebook – create an ad network comprising of members that want to spam their followers for money. It would be interesting to see how people react to this decision.
