Firefox for Android pre-alpha build unleashed
Quick Share:
Guess what Mozilla folks did today for their Android users. As promised, they have rolled out the pre-alpha build of Firefox for Android aka Fennec for Android or Firefox Mobile for Android. This build which is more on the nightly build side is believed to work with Nexus One or Motorola Droid.
Since this a pretty early and not the most mature build, here are things you should know:
- Tested on Motorola Droid and Nexus One.
- Bugs might make their presence felt because of which you might be required to reboot your phone.
- Lacks memory optimization feature.
- You’ll see the app exit and re launch on first start, as well as on add-on installs. Fix of this problem is in the works
- Can’t open links from other apps using Fennec.
- Requires Android 2.0 or above, and likely an OpenGL ES 2.0 capable device
If you are interested, you can download it by opening this link from your mobile browser. QR code is also available which can be scanned from Vladimir’s site. If you run into installation problems, you may consider enabling installation of non-Market applications by going to Settings, Applications, and checking “Unknown Sources”.
