Fring releases mobile app for Android, calls it Fring for Android

Finally, fring has done what the Android users were anticipating and waiting for a long time. Yes, fring has just launched  fring for Android. The just released fring mobile app for Android enables the Android phone users to chat across multiple IM platforms, call their fellow fringsters  and much more. (Features listed below).

Fring for Android features

Using fring for Android, users can

  • Chat with their friends across multiple IM services which include Google Talk, AIM, Yahoo, MSN Messenger, Skype and ICQ.
  • Use Twitter to post status updates.
  • Make free VOIP calls with your fellow fringsters.
  • Make land line or mobile calls using SkypeOut and other available SIP VoIP services.
  • Use fring via WiFi, 3G, or GPRS connection.

How to download fring for Android

You have 2 simple options for getting fring onto your Android device:

  1. Get it directly from the Android Market:
    • Start the Market application on your phone
    • Search for fring and install
  2. Get it from fring’s WAP site:
    • On your Android phone, go to Settings > Applications and check the box to allow ’unknown sources
    • Point your phone browser to m.fring.com and download

Known Issues

fring for Android has a few known issues, which will be fixed in the next version. The known issues are:

  • GSM contacts do not appear in fring’s buddy list on the Motorola DROID device.
  • Call disconnection tone may be heard a few times when terminating a call.
  • SIP and SkypeOut calls are not yet available on the Motorola DROID device.

Fring mobile app is already available for iPhone, iPod Touch, Windows Mobile, Symbian S60 platform

With Fring for Android user can interact with friends on all your favourite social networks including Skype, MSN Messenger, Google Talk, ICQ, SIP, Twitter, Yahoo! and AIM. Fring for Android enables free VoIP calls over Fring, Skype. does fring support VoIP calls feature like Vopium or skype out with this release ?
