Google rolls out Gesture search for Android
Every now and then, Google keeps on reminding us and highlighting us the significance and usefulness of its Labs concept. No, its not the Gmail Labs this time. Its more bigger than that. Here we go – The search engine giants have rolled out a new Google Labs app for Android called Gesture Search. There is no rocket science behind this feature. It is essentially a feature for Android devices which lets you search via hand drawn gestures of alphabets.
Here are the important things to keep in mind regarding its usage.
-
You can use it to search contacts, installed apps, music tracks and bookmarks.
-
To use this feature you need to have an Android 2.0 powered phone with touch screen (implied).
-
To delete the entire query – Draw line from left to right.
-
To delete the last letter – Draw line from right to left.
-
The app is learning as it learns from your search history.
Here are the cases which promote its usage:
-
Voice search is not always the best choice, specially during a meeting.
-
Typing queries may take more time.
One thing which I see missing from this app and would like to see it incorporated is to enable search for SMS as well. Do you agree with this? What is your general perception about the app? Let the comments fly in.
The app can be downloaded from the Android Market.
