Gmail for mobile now loads 2-3 times faster
Google has announced that its Gmail app for mobile has improved a lot in terms of performance and loads 2 – 3 times faster than it did back in April 2009. Infact it loads even faster on the latest version of iPhone and Android taking 3 seconds or less. This is great news for all the mobile users who use the mobile version of Gmail.
Large number of optimizations were performed to improve the responsiveness of the email app for mobile. HTML 5 was also used to its maximum potential to ensure that the mobile app offers the basic and advanced level functionality.
Alex Nicolaou, Engineering Manager said regarding this huge performance improvement:
I’m happy to report that Gmail for mobile loads 2-3x faster than it did in April (see Figure 1). In fact on newer iPhone and Android devices, the app now loads in under 3 seconds.
Google promises that they will continue to optimize and fine-tune Gmail for mobile and will roll out even more features in the immediate feature.

Except in the process Google has screwed over a few million users of non iPhone / Andriod phones since the new protocalls give an invalid certificate error on a few dozen handsets

This is something that Google should look into immediately
