Google has decided to jump into the concentrated and saturated social network bandwagon with Gmail being its social media weapon. The search engine giants are believed to be incorporating social network features such as status update and media content sharing (photos) into their email service, Gmail . In other words, they are presumably looking to go head-to-head with Facebook and Twitter.

Coming to the status update feature, the social update to Gmail will bring a Twitter and Facebook like timeline containing status update of your contacts. Gmail and other third party services will be the source of status updates.

Next up on Gmail’s social network agenda is media content sharing feature which of course will be the center of attention and attraction for many. WSJ believes that Google will be integrating YouTube and Picasa into the real time update stream.

One thing which remains unanswered is this – Will the social version of Gmail synchronize with Twitter and Facebook to  bring status updates from the largest and most popular microblogging network and social network respectively?

Google is expected to make this social update pretty soon? How soon is something that is yet to be answered.

Personally, I would like to see that happen since it will make Gmail my central location for communicating with my social network and email contacts. Doing this is likely to benefit Google as well. Are you looking forward to this social media push from Google?
