Google Buzz gets minor improvements, 9 million posts and comments buzzed already
Google has unveiled some interesting and mind blowing statistics about the recently launched Google Buzz. The social version of Gmail which is only 2 days old has already been a source of 9 million posts and comments. Its performance on the mobile front is also impressive and appealing. Around 200 posts are being made every single minute from mobile phone users around the world. Also a few changes of minor nature have been rolled out based on the feedback and criticism the search giant received. More on the changes after the jump.
Google Buzz has received a few changes which mainly addresses the privacy and usability concerns. These changes are:
-
Hide/Publicize Followers/ Following list: A more visible option has been placed to allow you to choose if your followers/following appear on your public profile or not.
-
Block any of your followers: Previously you were allowed to block only those people who had a public profile. Even though the change is here. I just why wasn’t this option incorporated from the beginning.
-
Clear distinction of followers with public profiles: A separate section has been created to explicitly filter out followers with public and private profile.
The initial look at the statistics (discussed above) suggests that Google Buzz is the next big thing. I am not going to buy this just now. I am more interested in seeing its performance as it reaches its first month of existence. Because if you think on it for a moment, it is just early days and everyone would have been excited by the Buzz and would have given it a try which led to this impressive post count.
I did give it a try but it disappointed me. I subscribed to my Twitter account but was extremely upset with the Google Buzz since it was not updating in real time. The tweets which I posted from Twitter showed up on Buzz after a couple of hours. So much for being a real time service. Did this thing happen with you as well? Do share.
I am not ruling out Google Buzz yet, because the team promises to have more updates and improvements up their sleeves. So I am waiting for those scheduled updates.
