Google has announced that the days of Nexus One web store are numbered. The search engine giants will be switching to the more conventional and widely used option of selling Android phones via retailers and carriers. Google started experimenting with web store option in January with the launch of their very own branded, first Android 2.1 device known as the Google Phone.

Here is why the open source mobile OS makers have taken this decision:

Many customers like a hands-on experience before buying a phone, and they also want a wide range of service plans to chose from.

Another translation of this version which makes more sense to me is the dismal sales performance of the Nexus One.

The web store will be shut down once Google lands Nexus One in a large number of retail stores. The web store will then become a showcase and exhibition place for the Android phones available globally. What’s your opinion about this move?  A decision which should have been taken earlier or has it come at the right moment.

Nexus One might not be Google’s most successful product but Android is one heck of a success story. Around 65,000 Android phones are being sold on a daily basis. How’s that for a fruitful innovation?
