Google has decided to pack their bags and shut down their search engine operations in China. According to Financial Times, the search engine giants have already formulated detailed plans and is 99.9 percent likely to go ahead with this rather expected event.

I was expecting this based on the recent statements given by both the parties. Google wasn’t willing to comply with the Chinese requirement to filter search results for inappropriate material. China said that they had no problems with the Californians providing their search engine services as long as they agree with the Chinese law.

The shutdown process will not begin immediately and the leaving party will be taking time to formally go through with the shutdown and also ensure that their local employees are safeguarded from the likely authorities retaliation.

It is worth noting here that Google will only be shutting down its search engine service and will continue its other operations in China.  I wonder what impact will this decision will have on Google’s financial position. Any thoughts? Do share with us.
