Today I read a very interesting article regarding the two giants of search, yes I am talking about Google and Yahoo. Very recent Americans conducted 14.8 billion online searches in April, up 3 percent from the previous month, and Google is still the search engine of choice for the vast majority of those searches.

Reston-based comScore, which tracks Internet traffic, says: 3

Google sites performed 64.2 percent of all searches in April, up 0.5 percent from March. Yahoo’s share of searches fell 0.1 percent to 20.4 percent.

Yahoo still accounts for more than twice the traffic of third ranked Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT). Microsoft’s sites accounted for 8.2 percent of all searches in April, down a fraction from the previous month. Ask Network and AOL LLC rank as the fourth and fifth most-used search engine sites, with 3.8 percent and 3.4 percent, respectively.

AOL’s share of searches posted the largest month-over-month decline among big sites, falling 0.3 percent from March.

A comScore report last month showed Yahoo (NASDAQ: YHOO) falling to fourth place among the most-watched Internet video destinations, being overtaken by Hulu.com.

Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) dominates the video category as well, largely because it owns YouTube.
