The topic of Honeycomb for smartphones just got a whole lot confusing. Last time we touched this topic, we shared with you the good news of Google making Android 3.0 smartphone friendly. But this time, we have the other side of news. According to a Google representative, Honeycomb is for tablet PCs only.

This shocking bit of news comes via TechRadar who caught up with Dave Burke, Director of Engineering of Android at Google. Here is what Burke had to say on Android 3.0 for smartphones:

We took the opportunity with Android 3.0 to enhance the UI. Right now it’s a tablet operating system.

The spokesperson however did signal Google’s intention to make Android a one for all firmware:

I think that coming together is a good idea. What we’re trying to do here I make a base platform that’s so good, that others only need to add native elements in their core area.

So does this mean we won’t be getting the sexy looking Honeycomb UI on our smartphones? Or does Google intend to bring a trimmed down version of the OS under a different name?
