XDA Developers continue to amaze and surprise us. If you are a proud owner of HTC Desire, then you will be  pleased to know that an Android hacker by the name richardtrip has managed to port the Gingerbread AOSP build to HTC Desire, and that too in working condition.

Ginger Villain is the name of the ROM and it offers the following functionalities:

  • Google Apps (with market)
  • OTA update/mod/kernel flash tool (Villain Setup)
  • Google maps 5.0 – two finger rotation
  • Bluetooth
  • Camera (No recording atm)
  • Apps2SD (Google + A2SD+)
  • Titanium Backup
  • ROM Manager
  • Superuser

Since this is a vanilla Gingerbread build, you won’t be getting the sensational Sense interface, but hey you are getting the latest Android version on your handset. Currently the ROM doesn’t allow you to record videos but I doubt if that will always be the case.
