I was just using my Twitter when all of a sudden I caught the glimpse of the trending topics. And boy was I amazed when I saw this topic “I quit iPhone“. Before clicking on the topic, I just asked myself, why would one want to do such a thing. And you know what was the immediate answer that came to my mind. Yes you are right: one potential reason for getting rid of iPhone is because of the rejection of Google Voice app by Apple. Michael Arrington of TechCrunch stated this reason for quitting iPhone. His words were:
I’m not going to upgrade to the iPhone 3GS. Instead, I’m abandoning the iPhone and AT&T. I will grudgingly pay the $175 AT&T termination fee and then I will move on to another device.

Arrington explained the reason behind Apple’s move of blocking Google App. He said:
Apple and AT&T are now blocking the iPhone version of the Google Voice app. Why? Because they absolutely don’t want people doing exactly what I’m doing – moving their phone number to Google and using the carrier as a dumb pipe.
So what will it take to bring Arrington and others who intend to quit iPhone back. Michael Arrington answered that too:
Apple, if you ever decide to put the hammer down on AT&T and do the right thing for your loyal users, I’ll consider switching back.
So what is Apple going to do. Is it going to reconsider its decision or will it leave it now to rue over it later. One question from you, If you had been in a similar situation, would you consider quitting iPhone?. Please do share with us.

I’m absolutely quitting iPhone, for many of the same reasons Arrington mentioned, with Google Voice being the last straw. Google Voice could have been a way for me to KEEP using my iPhone despite horrendous coverage, dropped calls, lagging SMS (by several hours much of the time) and so forth. But Apple/AT&T denied me that one path to remaining their customer.
