Facetime, the video call feature in iPhone 4 is one of the coolest features for the stainless steel phone  and happens to be one of the five reasons why we think that it is a game changing gadget. But how much battery life does it consumes during the process is an important question. iLounge took the initiative to test this very aspect of the video call feature and have come up with interesting results which you can read after the jump.

It turns out that Facetime is a bit too thirsty when it comes to consuming battery life as it allows just three hours of video calls before draining out the battery completely.

Three hours and 10 minutes, give or take a little, from a completely charged iPhone 4. That’s via Wi-Fi, as compared with a promised 7 hours of voice-only talk time over 3G, and 10 hours of standard data time over Wi-Fi—the difference is attributable to iPhone 4’s camera, mics, speaker, video and audio encoding and decoding capabilities all being used at the same time.

Note that we tested two iPhone 4s on this one, seeing average battery consumption of 30% per hour, with slightly lower consumption when there wasn’t as much change in the outgoing video image.

Personally I am a bit confused as to how much of an impact this video draining feature will have on an iPhone 4 user. We won’t be making video calls all the time but when we do will it have enough battery to allow us to have a nice enjoyable motion based conversation?
