Is 2010 going to be the Android year?
comScore has released a report covering the mobile phone industry. The report is titled Android: Crashing the Smartphone party and the title itself says it all. The report provides an in-depth look at how Android is faring in the competitive mobile phone industry and what to expect in the 2010 . In a nutshell, Android has found a loyal consumer base and the rate at which the consumer awareness is increasing is rapid and impressive. The year 2010 will be an interesting one to watch since the competition is all set to move to the next level.

What’s more interesting is the fact that 17% of American users are planning to purchase Android in contrast to 20% of the audience wanting to purchase iPhone. Should Apple be worried about this interesting stat?

With handsets on multiple carriers, from multiple manufacturers, and numerous Android device models expected to be in the U.S. market by January, the Android platform is rapidly shaking up the smartphone market. While iPhone continues to set the bar with its App Store and passionate user base, and RIM remains the leader among the business set, Android is clearly gaining momentum among developers and consumers.
It has been one year or so since Android entered the concentrated mobile phone market and already it has started creating excitement among the masses, something which will definitely please Google. Back in August, 22% of mobile users knew about the Android platform, the OS awareness now has increased to 37%, which is quite brilliant.
Keeping in mind these interesting stats, one cannot escape from the conclusion, that Android is all set for an impressive show in 2010, something which Microsoft, Apple, BlackBerry and Nokia would not be altogether happy about.
