Apple just few hours ago has released iOS 5, and it is already confirmed by the genius iPhone developers that Apple’s latest firmware iOS 5 can be jailbroken via RedSn0w and Sn0wBreeze.

Two iPhone developers, Musclenerd and iH8sn0w on their twitter accounts, told that the public version of iOS 5 is same as GM version and one can easily perform a tethered jailbreak with the latest versions of RedSn0w and Sn0wBreeze.

With that being said, iOS 5 (Official) can be jailbroken (tethered) with the latest redsn0w & sn0wbreeze 2.8 beta 8. :)

Follow these instructions to perform iOS 5 tethered jailbreak (taken from iPhone Freak)

Step 1: Download Redsn0w 0.9.9b2 for Windows and Mac
Step 2: Download iOS 5 beta 7 IPSW for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch
Step 3: Launch Redsn0w 0.9.9b2

Normally redsn0w 0.9.9b2 jailbreak without needing ISPW, since beta firmware isn’t available to the public, you will have to provide the ISPW to redsn0w, which in this case is going to be iOS 5 beta 7 ipsw.

Step 4: Click on Extras followed by Select IPSW.
Step 5: Select the IPSW from where you downloaded it and then click OK. Redsn0w will display the following confirmation
Step 6: Click on OK and then on Back to go main screen. Here, click on Jailbreak and redsn0w 0.9.9b2 will begin its work

Click on Install Cydia.

After you click Next, make sure that your device is both powered OFF and plugged IN. Now follow the onscreen instructions to put your device in to DFU mode.

  • Hold Power button for three seconds
  • Hold Power + Home button for 10 seconds
  • Release Power button, keep holding Home button until redsn0w starts working again

After that, redsn0w will automatically jailbreak iOS 5 tethered on your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Once that is done, you need to boot your device tethered. Since it would already be connected to the device, simply go to Extras from the main screen and click on Just Boot.

Follow instructions to put your device in DFU mode again. Once you have done that, redsn0w will automatically boot your device tethered.
