You own a mobile phone and you are not worried about your mobile phone security, to which extent is this true?. Well according to a survey conducted by Trend Micro, very few users are actually concerned about having a safe browsing experience using their smartphones.

The survey revealed that 44% people out of 1000 respondents are not tense and concerned about their mobile security. The only thing they seemed to be concerned about was the unfortunate incident of losing their mobile data such as phone number in case they lose their mobile phone due to some physical activity (Snatching and so on). They seem less worried about losing information due to Web Threats, phishing or spam attacks. Around 23% utilize already installed security apps. A certain fraction of people share the belief that mobile phones are not that much prone to security risks.

There has been evidence of existence of mobile malware which includes Symbian malwares such as SYMBOS_BESELO.A, SYMBOS_VIVER.A, SYMBOS_FEAKS.A, and SYMBOS_YXES.B among other malwares. Other notable mobile malware include WINCE_INFOJACK.A and WINCE_CRYPTIC.A, which target Windows mobile phones

Bernadette Irinco of at TrendMicro stated :

As mobile phones become more Web-based and as users more heavily rely on them to conduct their day-to-day business, potential risks brought about by phishing and other Web threats will become more rampant as well. Users are advised to be wary when browsing as this could lead them to malware infection and information loss. They are strongly urged to use security software to stay protected from malware infections.
