Disappointingly, there will be no Gingerbread Update for HTC Desire
A very sad news for all HTC Desire owners, HTC UK recently has made a very disappointing announcement on their Facebook Page that there will be no Android 2.3 update for HTC Desire.
It seems HTC due to the shortage of memory which is 512 MB of RAM, has failed in keeping up with the promise to roll out a Gingerbread update for the Desire handset in late April or early May. This is indeed some bitter words for the Desire enjoyer!
Well, the comments section of the fan page shows the real disappointment between users that they might switch to other brands after this news update by HTC:
Our engineering teams have been working hard for the past few months to find a way to bring Gingerbread to the HTC Desire without compromising the HTC Sense experience you’ve come to expect from our phones. However, we’re sorry to announce that we’ve been forced to accept there isn’t enough memory to allow us both to bring Gingerbread and keep the HTC Sense experience on the HTC Desire. We’re sincerely sorry for the disappointment that this news may bring to some of you.
By reading the above statement by HTC UK, it is confirmed that we won’t be able to see the official Gingerbread update for HTC Desire in future, but many thanks to the members of XDA developers community for providing us with an unofficial way of porting Gingerbread to Desire handsets, that’s not all – by the help of the same developers we can also install a Gingerbread keyboard on our un-rooted (HTC Desire) Android handsets. Isn’t it just amazing?
However, if you don’t want to apply the above unofficial tactics, then unluckily Froyo is the only choice you are going to stay with. So will you be switching your phone after reading the above news OR are you doing fine with your Froyo equipped Desire? Give us your feedback in the comment box below.
