Nokia announces free, voice based turn by turn navigation system for its smartphones
Nokia has announced that it will be bringing free of cost, voice-based turn by turn GPS directions for its smartphone line. This functionality will be provided via a new version of Ovi Maps. Currently, this cool sat-nav system functionality is available in 74 countries and in 46 languages. It is completely flexible, since not only it provides pedestrian directions, it also provides voice based turn-by-turn directions while you are driving. Features discussed after the jump.
Here is what you will get:
-
Free Drive navigation with smart features including lane guidance, traffic info (in over 10 countries), as well as safety camera and speed warnings.
-
Free Walk navigation shortcuts through parks and pedestrian-only spots for over 100 cities worldwide
-
Free maps and map updates
-
Free Events guides
-
Free Lonely Planet guides
-
Free Michelin guides
Anssi Vanjoki, Executive Vice President at Nokia, said about today’s announcement:
We want to make using your mobile for navigation as familiar as using it to send a text or take a picture. We believe that making the best maps with voice guided navigation available for free will be the catalyst to do this. Why have multiple devices that only work in one country or region? Put it all together, make it free, make it global and you have something that is truly useful and can help you get round almost any city in the world whether you’re on foot or driving.
