Mozilla Labs was created to give the community a safe and welcoming place to develop, research, talk about, and play with new and crazy ideas.
Mozilla has introduced a new product by the name Bespin, it’s a code editor that lives in the cloud.
It definitely tells you how many web developers and programmers are working in co-operation, or collaborating with other programmers from a home office.
The main features of Bespin are, it is easy to use, it provides real time collaboration as it comes with the feature of sharing live coding sessions with colleagues, it can be accessed from anywhere and from any device.
I found a video on Youtube, you people can watch it and see how good Bespin is.
Mozilla has has released an early experimental prototype to demonstrate some of the concepts of Bespin and the possibilities that it opens up.
Initial prototype framework includes support for basic editing features, such as syntax highlighting, large file sizes, undo/redo, previewing files in the browser, importing/exporting projects, etc.
More advantages includes a synchronized work environment, without the pains of other web-based writing tools. Most popular web-based editors like Google Docs don’t handle code well at all. They’re mostly for writing regular old text docs. Bespin gives you the facilities like syntax highlighting and line numbering.
In short Bespin is a great success for the development community, now there is nothing to worry about the code, the synchronization, the work enviroment, the devices.
I have just come across Microsoft Exchange Team blog and saw their new video which encompasses latest stuff you can expect to see with the release of next version of Microsoft Exchange (codename Exchange 14). That is a must-watch video to observe every cool feature that has been embedded in this release.
To start with the features, most essential one is multi-browser support for the first-class version of Outlook Web Access (OWA). Now, you can easily access Outlook live with Firefox, Apple and Internet Explorer. Although, there was a support for all the browsers in past days with a simpler version of OWA called OWA Light. In light version there was a limitation of what they call rich experience, but now in this improved one, you can get full rich experience with drag ‘n drop and the rest of that Ajax magic in all three browsers. Now, Microsoft has shown it’s interest in openness like support for the webservices and browsers for the variety of mobile phones from the iPhone to Nokia to Windows Mobile.
Another important feature is new turbo-charged conversation view. Like if you get 100 messages per day and normally they are part of same 15 or 20 threads. So you can use the new coversation view to make it easier to keep track of the entire discussion at a time instead of letting the old ones slowly accrete in your inbox. Now, with the help of this feature you cut 80% of the clutter if you receive 100 email messages in ~20 conversations.
Last one is the IM integrated in the OWA/Outlook Live interface. It is the foremost step in creating a truly unified client that is responsible to display all communications (emails, voicemails and instand messaging) in a single interface.
The work which is being done on Outlook through the browser enhances an already world-class Web mail experience which is introduced with Exchange 2007, have a look at their demo. In this new version, browser-based email will just keep getting better.

Google’s first try at building a web browser was almost an unexpected success.
Google Chrome is a browser that combines a minimal design with sophisticated technology to make the web faster, safer, and easier.
Now Google is about to release a version of Chrome browser for MAC.
It is not released yet, but Google is collecting email addresses, in order to let you know when it will be released.
The main advantage so far in Chrome is that each tab runs independently of the others.
Google has released the first ever screenshot, in order to prove that they are near to first beta release.
Crowed programmer Avi Drissman wrote:
“Now we can call it Chrome!”
Google has given a deadline of shipping Chrome for the Mac and Linux by mid-2009. And we hope so, that it will be released accordingly.
Moving Google Chrome from Windows application to MAC is not easy.
Ben Goodger, a Firefox programmer who is now leading Chrome’s interface work, complained about the difficulties of maintaining Chrome across multiple operating systems while managing with the different abilities of each operating system.
On 4th Febraury, Goodger further said that:
“My initial thought was that a Windows-clone would be acceptable on Linux provided the performance of the app itself was outstanding, given the general reluctance of some of the team working on Linux towards UI (user interface). But they stood up and made their case for a GTK UI,”
Google, the search engine giants have released an application which goes by the name “My Tracks” for Android based phones. The released application keeps and maintains a record of the various outdoor activities, utilizing the phone’s built-in GPS. My Tracks shows all the tracks on a map and presents live statistics of these activities.
But the feature which takes the spotlight among all the other features is that it lets you share your activities with friends, family members, infact the whole world by making use of the ever famous Google Maps.
What is the thing that makes this application a unique one? Unlike My Tracks, various GPS receivers require you to go through a lengthy process. You have to insert and plug a separate device into a computer, install the software, transfer, convert and then upload you track related data to the web.
With My Tracks, you no longer need to have multiple devices while going out on a ride and other outdoor activities. You can quite easily share your rides spontaneously with any one you desire. You just need to record and upload your track directly from your phone. You can share it via an Email or even you can use Twitter.
While recording tracks, you can:
- See location / progress on a map
- Monitor real-time statistics: time, distance, speed, elevation
- Create waypoints
- Create statistics waypoints (splits tracks into subtracks)
To share tracks, you can:
- Upload to Google Maps.
- Upload to Google Docs.
- Email as a Google My Map link.
- Embed Google Map on a website.
- Email as .gpx or .kml attachments.
- Export as .gpx or .kml to phone SD card.
- Tweet your My Map link on Twitter using Twidroid.
In short, My Tracks is an application that enables you to keep your loved ones up to date with your current location and activities while requiring minimum effort from your side.
Google now wants to organize your home’s energy information.
On 11th February, Google has announced an initiative designed to help consumers reduce their energy use. Called PowerMeter, it’s currently in closed beta among Google employees, and aims to bring smart power grid information to the consumer, in order to track the usage of
As Google has already invested in several small solar, wind and geothermal companies, as well as two “smart grid” companies.
A smart grid delivers electricity from suppliers to consumers using digital technology to save energy and cost.
Such a modernized electricity network is being promoted by many governments as a way of addressing energy independence or global warming issues.
While on its Official Blog, Google said that a smart grid tool will be named as ‘Google powermeter’, and that will show home energy consumption almost in real time on a user’s computer.
It may not sound like much, but if half of America’s households cut their energy demand by 10 percent, it would be the equivalent of taking eight million cars off the road,
Powermeter is not available to the public as Google employees are testing it. This all sounds quite useful, once smart meters get rolled out to everyone and the program comes out of beta: years, and years down the line.
Spokeswoman Niki Fenwick said:
The company hopes to develop partnerships with utilities so it can roll PowerMeter out to consumers in the next few months,
Google’s investment in smart grid is with several companies named as Germantown, Maryland-based Current Group and Redwood City, California-based Silver Spring Networks.

Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, is a leading mobile phone provider company and they claim that ‘Imagine what Samsung can do for you!’.
On Wednesday company has proved what they can do, Samsung has announced the launch of its new UltraTouch Slider phone, which is simply beautiful and fully equipped.
There’s a lot to like about the new Samsung S8300, the Korean manufacturer’s new multimedia phone for lot of people. The Samsung S8300 combines the ultra-thin shape with a touchscreen interface, and it is the first phone in a new Samsung product line of UltraTouch.
As compared with the previous Ultra editions, the Ultra touch phone is perfect style wise, design wise and technology wise and now it is with full touch.
Steve Han, the company head of Samsung electronics has said:
With its refined contoured design, Samsung Ultra touch is our elegant full-touch hero at this year’s Mobile World Congress, proving again that Samsung’s mobile phones are at the forefront of style.
Now coming towards the features, Samsung’s new phone offers variety of amazing features, including:
- Active Matrix OLED (AMOLED) display
- A 2.8″ screen showing 16 million colors at a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels
- Video playback support
- Can play file formats such as DivX, XviD, H.263, H.264, WMV9 and MPEG4
- MicroSDHC memory slot can support up to 16GB cards, Bluetooth 2.1 and USB 2.0.
The only sad thing about this mobile is its 80 MB internally memory.
The most important and the interesting part is it’s 8.0 Megapixel CMOS camera. The camera will have auto focus, face detection and smile recognition.
The four new changes can be summarized as follows:
1. Contact Merge:
One can select the contacts if contacts are to be merged, click “Merge these…” as shown in the figure below.
Now one can synchronize his/her contacts to a variety of devices, to merge contacts is more important than ever. A known issue with merging contacts that affects address auto-complete, the merging of the addresses sometimes come up in a suboptimal order (e.g. auto-complete may bring up friend’s work address first even though one usually email their Gmail address). Google is working on fixing this so the email address for any given contact will always come up first.
2. All Contacts
Now one can see a group called ‘All Contacts’ where all of the contacts live and thus a good view for merging duplicate contacts. You can still see suggested contacts by clicking the “View Suggestions” button from My Contacts. From there, you can select frequently emailed contacts to add to My Contacts.
3. Remove people from My Contacts
One can finally remove the contacts out of My Contacts group, especially useful if one is planning to synchronize contact list to phone. Remove the contacts one don’t want synced to phone from My Contacts (simply click “Groups” and then “Remove from My Contacts”), and they won’t get synced.
4. Search across all contact fields
The contact search is working much better: instead of just searching contact names and email addresses, one can include phone numbers, notes fields, and mailing addresses as well, it can done through the contact manager search box.
These four changes are very effective in order to organize new contacts.
Microsoft has decided to discontinue Ultimate Extras and will not provide it with Ultimate version of Windows 7 . Ultimate Extras which was introduced with Vista is set to end with Vista.
Since the launch of Windows Vista, Ultimate Extras has brought nothing but embarrassment for the software giants. Even though Microsoft accepted the fact of Ultimate Extras not being up to the mark and apologized for it. Even it made some improvements to it. Still Microsoft was not delivering as per promised.
Majority of the users claim that they chose and went on with Vista Ultimate not because of the presence of Ultimate Extras. Microsoft is hoping that users will make the same decision when going for Windows 7 Ultimate, as it will not be cotain Ultimate Extras.
To prove it here is what Microsoft had to say :
Our new approach to planning and building Windows doesn’t have the capacity to continue to deliver features outside the regular release cycle. While our core development team is focused on building the next release, our sustained engineering team is focused on updates to existing features. As a result we don’t plan to create Ultimate Extras.
Windows 7 Ultimate is not intended to be sold at retail, instead it is targeted to be on sale during some promotional periods. Rumor says that Ultimate flavor of Windows 7 is expected to be $80 cheaper than Vista Ultimate, going for an amount of $320. What remains to be seen is how PC makers offer it, but it is highly likely to be an option in their more powerful and advanced models.
