webOSlogoPalm has released a second update for the operating system of Palm Pre. This update happens to be the second update and has been shipped in as many weeks as it was introduced to the customers (Palm Pre was released couple of weeks ago). As one expects with an update, it makes a few updates and fixes a bug. One improvement that is worth noticing involves the modifications that have been made to the approach that this smartphone takes to synchronizes with both Google and Exchange.

It is reported that the webOS 1.0.3 does not contain any new software. Coming the changes that this OS update brings, you can expect the following:

  • The sync interval for Google contacts and events has been decreased from every few hours to every 15 minutes.
  • Non-SSL Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) mail servers are now supported.
  • Previously, alarms set to go off only on weekdays would also go off on weekends. This has been fixed.
  • Events created in Google Calendar — either on the phone or online — that contain a symbol or accented character in the event name can now synchronize. Before now, they could not.
  • Power performance in areas where wireless coverage is weak or not upto the mark or unavailable has been improved.

The process of rolling out webOS 1.0.3 updates to its users was initiated on Friday saving you the effort of updating it by yourself. However, if you happened to be one of those that can’t wait for the update to arrive, they can always go to the Updates application on their device and get the updated OS immediately. One more thing which the Palm users are surely going to appreciate is the fact that the installation of webOS 1.0.3 would consume only a few minutes and would not erase all of the valuable contents on your smartphone.
