Skype for Symbian pulled from Ovi Store USA
Skype stay at the Ovi Store for USA has been cut short. Skype for Symbian has been removed from the Ovi Store due to a recently signed agreement between Skype and Verizon Wireless. This doesn’t mean that USA based Nokia handset owners won’t be able to download and use the app. The app can still be downloaded from Skype’s Official website.
Sravanthi Agrawal, a member of Skype’s corporate communications team while replying to an email based query from Venture Beat stated regarding this surprise development:
Skype has made a decision in the United States to not promote the Skype for Symbian app through the Ovi Store. We did this so that we could drive more attention to the recently announced Skype and Verizon Wireless agreement. This was a marketing decision — plain and simple.
I like many of you, am totally surprised by this rather unexpected and strange development. It has been only 3 days since the app landed at the Ovi Store and now it is removed. Simply crazy. How surprised are you by this act? What are your comments?
