What is one thing that you don’t like about Nokia’s Symbian OS in today’s world of ever changing mobile experience? One of your answers would be its not so sexy looking UI? Well, the Finlanders  have accepted that as well and have decided to do something about it. As a matter of fact Symbian 3 and Symbian 4 reflect Nokia’s attempt to correct and improve upon the user interface aspect along with other improvements.. A video has been shared by Phonedog that showcases the UI aspect of Symbian 3. Video after the jump.

The video discusses the following aspects of the upcoming UI

  • Multiple Homescreens with customization support.
  • Improved Graphical performance.
  • More transparent multitasking.
  • Multitouch screens.

Yeah great, but in case no one has noticed, mobile application websites no longer mention Symbian – they only mention the iPhone, and then Android as second priority (which I will soon have). Why would developers, after being neglected by Nokia for so many years, and seduced so successfully by Apple and Android, be remotely interested in dealing with Nokia ever again? It’s just another platform to develop for, with questionable market appeal in an already spoilt market. And the endless delays, high prices and support of the N97 and general attitude of Nokia toward device customers has left a bitter taste in many consumers mouths. How will Nokia address any of this? I was interested in Symbian 3, about 3 years ago. I suspect this will take another 3 years to be released and mature, and will again be obsolete by then.
