We said Firefox 3.6 was arriving today and guess what it has arrived. This release comes after months of testing, beta and release candidate releases. The latest iteration of Mozilla’s open source browser is 20% faster than Firefox 3.5. Features list and download link after the jump. It has been released for Windows, Linux and Mac platform.
Mozilla‘s browser team, Firefox has certainly taken a fresh start at the new year and seems more poised to meeting their deadlines than ever before. A couple of days back, Firefox 3.6 RC2 was released and now the big announcement has been made. Final version of Firefox 3.6 will be unleashed tomorrow i.e on 21st January at 9:30 AM PST (Pacific Standard Time.)
Mozilla has released Firefox 3.6 RC2 today. The second Firefox 3.6 RC doesn’t contain a lot of bug fixes. Infact, from what we gather, it was released just to fix a single bug found in the Linux version. I haven’t tried it yet, but I am pretty sure that like Firefox 3.6 RC1, it will be speedier than its previous versions – a must have thing if Firefox is to survive in the ever competitive browser war.
BSI, the German Federal Office for Security in Information Technology has officially advised its citizens to avoid using Internet Explorer, all versions of IE to be more specific. The federal office recommends to continue this practice until Microsoft releases a fix for the latest zero day flaw which caused the recent hacking attack on Google.

Mozilla has just released a new release candidate of Firefox 3.6, which promises to be even faster than the current beta or 3.5 editions. Mozilla after so many broken promises, vowed to unleash Firefox 3.6 RC at the start of this month and that is what exactly has happened. Yes, the release candidate for Firefox 3.6 has finally arrived. As with every release, the RC brings bug fixes and performance improvements.
New figures for browser share are out and they bring good news for Google Chrome – Google‘s very own Chrome browser has overtaken Apple‘s Safari for the first time. Web metric company Net Applications‘ figures (shown below) for December showed that Google ended 2009 with its highest ever share. 4.63 per cent of all users now use Chrome compared to Safari’s 4.46 per cent share.
Mozilla has released the first release candidate of Firefox for Maemo aka Firefox Mobile. This release was expected before christmas but that did not happen did it. Nokia N900 and N810 are supported devices. If you’ve been running the beta, they say RC1 is more polished and that text rendering has improved.
Mozilla has announced its browser plans for the year 2010. Unfortunately, the release date for final version of Firefox 3.6 has been pushed back to 2010. The arrival of Firefox 3.6 RC seems also unlikely. Final release of Firefox 4.0 is expected to arrive in late part of 2010 or early part of 2011.
The Christmas is just hours away and many of you will be waiting for the exchange of gifts. It seems that Mozilla might well be part of your Christmas celebrations. Reports have surfaced that suggests Mozilla is likely to unleash the much talked about mobile version of Firefox, more commonly known as Firefox Mobile.
