Gingerbread keyboard ported to non-rooted Android handsets
Dec 17th
One of the visually appealing features of Gingerbread is its functionally and visually improved keyboard. But since it is an Android 2.3 specific keyboard it is limited to Gingerbread running handsets. But all of this has changed thanks to XDA Developer hotaru. Gingerbread keyboard apk has been extracted and made available for all non rooted Android handsets running on Android 2.2 and Android 2.1.
Here’s the description of the keyboard:
this is the gingerbread keyboard, renamed so you can install it alongside the android keyboard you already have. it should work on non-rooted phones. it also includes dictionaries for all six languages that the regular android keyboard has (DE, EN, ES, FR, IT, SV).
I just installed it on my Froyo enabled HTC Desire and I am loving it. Steps to install it and use it are listed below:
Step 1 – Download Gingerbread Keyboard from here.
Step 2 – Install it. I did so using HTC Sync.
Step 3 – Once installed, go to Settings –> Language & Keyboard.
Step 4 – Check mark the Gingerbread keyboard option.
Step 5 – Write some text, how about a SMS. Then Long tap the text field.
Step 6 – From the popup menu that appears, select Input Method and select the Gingerbread keyboard radio button.
