The most important question for the iPhone and iPod Touch users has been answered. Thanks to an updated Apple UK’s website, we know now when will iOS 4.1 go live for the iDevice users. 8th September is the date you should set your calendar to.

How to Downgrade iOS 4.0.2 to iOS 4.0.1 without a saved SHSH (Windows)

Well Well Well, have we got something for our iDevice users stuck on iOS 4.0.2 or what? Uptil now, we have been able to downgrade iOS only if we had the SHSH blob saved. But it turns out that you don’t need to have your saved Blob in in case you want to downgrade your iPhone 4 / iPhone 3GS from iOS 4.0.2 to iOS 4.0.1. Steps to do that follow after the jump.
How to restore iOS 4.0.1 on iPhone 4/3GS/3G (Updated)

Update 1: Apple has stopped signing iOS 4.0.1. In case you want to downgrade to iOS 4.0.1 and don’t have a saved SHSH for it, don’t worry as you can still downgrade using the guide posted here.
Apple recently rolled out next to useless if not useless iOS 4.0.2 update which didn’t bring any new features. All it did was took away the jailbreak capability of your precious iDevice and in return fixed the PDF vulnerability which should not be there in the first place. Anyways, if you are running on iOS 4.0.2 and want to restore to iOS 4.0.1 you are in luck as the Cupertinos are still signing the iOS 4.0.1 firmware. Steps to restore the 4.0.1 firmware follow after the jump.

Steps to restore iOS 4.0.1 on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G
Step 1 – Download iOS 4.0.1 ipsw file for your specific iPhone model from here.
Step 2 – Connect your iPhone to computer via USB cable.
Step 3 – Launch iTunes.
Step 4 – iTunes will detect your iPhone in the left pane. Click on the Apple Device and then click on the Summary Tab.
Step 5 – Press and Hold Shift (for Windows)/Restore (for Mac) and then click on the Restore button.
Step 6 – iTunes will prompt you to provide the ipsw file. Point iTunes to the iOS 4.0.1 file you downloaded in Step 1 and then click Open.
Step 7 – Voila, you just restored your iDevice to iOS 4.0.1.

Apple, at the start of this week rolled out iOS 4.0.2 which brought bad news for the jailbreak community as is quite often the case. The reason why I term this as bad news is due to the iOS 4 update patching the PDF vulnerability thus taking away the jailbreak capability of your iDevice except for iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G.
