Nokia has seen its share of the smartphone market slide as its handsets based on the Symbian operating system (OS) went from being top dogs to struggling contenders. There was talk that the Finnish firm would be partnering with a different OS developer for its future projects, a rumour which proved to be true when it recently announced a deal with Microsoft to bring Windows Phone 7 to its next array of smartphones. However, Nokia does not seem to be abandoning its other platforms outright as Symbian is being kept alive in the short term on models like the X7 and E6. The announcement of the Nokia N9, a smartphone based on the MeeGo OS, caused even more speculation that Nokia might not be putting all its eggs in the Windows Phone 7 basket.
Today at Nokia Connection in Singapore, Nokia announced its first ever MeeGo-based smartphone N9 (also known as Lankku). Nokia N9 has three different color flavors, magenta, black and cyan and sports a wide 3.9 inch curved glass AMOLED touch-screen with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels. It’s powerful back-equipped 8-megapixel camera has an autofocus feature and dual LED flash capability. The N9 is powered by 1GHz Cortex A8 CPU and has 1GB of RAM, beside this it is the first button-less smartphone manufactured by Nokia. See specs and images after the break.
I think it would be safe to say that Nokia has a major leakage problem provided they see it as a problem. First the C7 images leaked out and now the specs of the QWERTY shaped Nokia N9 have leaked out. A NokNok reader who goes by the name Lee has to be thanked for sharing the link and performing a great deed for the Nokia community. Specs follow after the jump.
What comes after Nokia N8? Nokia N9 is the answer I am looking for. Infact, N9 is the smartphone that the Nokia folks themselves are working on as well. Folks at Negrielectronics have shared the first ever video of the upcoming smartphone which you can see after the jump.
