Finally a sigh of relief for the Sidekick customers. Microsoft said it would be restoring data for the SideKick users and it has delivered on its promise. Yes Microsoft has initiated the recovery/restorage process that would see SideKick users getting their valuable data back. Microsoft would be carrying out the recovery process in stages. This is the first phase of the content restoration process which will restore personal contacts of the users. The following paragraphs describe how to restore your very own Sidekick data.
Everybody is aware of the unfortunate outage of Microsoft‘s Danger server that resulted in data loss for T-Mobile Sidekick users. Microsoft made a statement during the last week which was welcomed by the Sidekick users as Microsoft stated that the data recovery for majority of the user was in progress.Yesterday Microsoft posted an update about Sidekick data restoration
Microsoft may be recovering the Sidekick users’ data but apparently that does not make any differecne to T-Mobile. You might be aware of Microsoft‘s announcement Yesterday regarding the possibility of recovering data for Sidekick users. With that announcement there was a strong possibility of T-Mobile would resume the sales for SideKick but that did not happen. T-Mobile has still put the SideKick sales on hold.
Data Restoration to Begin as Soon as Possible for Affected Customers.
Microsoft has confirmed the data recovery for Sidekick customers whose data was affected by the recent outage. Users’ personal data will be restored as soon as possible, starting with personal contacts. Then other data including calendar, notes, tasks, photographs and high scores, will be restored as quickly as possible. Data loss affected a minority of Sidekick users.
Prior to Bing, Microsoft provided search facilities through its search engine named Live Search. Its mobile version was also available for users to use on their mobile phones. The mobile application was titled Live Search Mobile application. The mobile version of Live search provided Voice based and location based search capabilities. Since Bing has replaced Live Search quite successfully (which is safe to say at the current time), there arises a question when will be the Mobile version of Bing become available for use. That is where Long Zheng of istartedsomething comes to the rescue.
According to Long Zheng, the mobile version of Bing is just around the corner and is expected to be released and made available very soon. The mobile edition of Bing is not a mere rebranding of its predecessor Live Search Mobile. The mobile version will be supporting not only Windows Mobile and Blackberry based smartphones, instead the support has been extended to include Sidekick and BREW supported phones. The Bing application for mobile phones is expected to be rolled out in November for all Verizon BREW phones.
Furthermore the service has been extended and expanded to the European Market, with plans of distributing local content to the UK, French and Italian users. Modifications to the design of the applications are also expected. Shown below are a few images which were taken during the late part of April 2009.
A big thanks to Long Zheng for providing us with these cool pics and information.
