Twitter has launched a new feature by the name Hovercards. Hovercards allows you to quickly view profile of a tweep without having to click and visit user’s profile. Just like the name suggests, all you need to do is hover over the user name or their avatar and the profile will appear before you. This comes out as another step from the popular microblogging network in an effort to improve user experience. And believe me it does just that.

As per the normal practice, it hasn’t been rolled  out to the whole global Twitter community. The universal rollout will take place gradually so patience is the key here.

Twitter spokesperson Jenna Sampson described the feature as:

Hovercards are cards which appear when you hover over a username or avatar. The cards display additional information about the person and allow you to interact with them while staying within the context of your page.

Once you hover over the intended tweep’s username or profile in your timeline , a card appears which contains the following items

  • Profile information.
  • Follow status informing you if you are following that person or not.
  • Location.
  • Options menu which allows you to follow/block/mention or report the person. This is one item which I simply admire for understandable reasons.

I really like this feature since it allows you to view a specific profile without taking you away from timeline, thus enabling you to view the profile and at the same time keep an eye on your precious timeline. What’s your take on this feature? Do share with us.
