Verizon iPhone runs on iOS 4.2.5
So you thought that the CDMA antenna was the only thing that separated Verizon iPhone from the one offered by AT&T? Well, you are not alone as we thought the same as well. Based on the hands-on experience TechCrunch had with the CDMA variant of the stainless steel phone, we now know about the other thing that distinguishes it from the GSM version of the iPhone 4 – Verizon iPhone runs on iOS 4.2.5.
There is a reason why CDMA iPhone is running on iOS 4.2.5 and not iOS 4.2.1. If your memory serves you right, Verizon iPhone have one unmatched capability, personal hotspots. To enable Verizon’s iDevice to share data connection over WiFi with no more than 5 devices, an iOS update was needed which resulted in iOS 4.2.5.
This raises a few important questions:
- When will AT&T get the Personal Hotspot capability?
- Is iOS 4.2.5 jailbreakable with the current line of iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak tools?
- When will the two merge?
