Windows 8 to feature a Metro style PDF reader, will support Windows Phone 8 as well
The month of March saw Windows 8 pre-release version going live to some Connect members and once that happens you know that a storm of Windows 8 leakages is just around the corner. The latest round of leakage comes via Rafael Rivera in cooperation with Paul Thurrott. Both these Microsoft junkies have come across a Microsoft built PDF reader that will be called Modern Reader and will become packaged with Windows 8.
The PDF reader is a simple one and has the following characteristics:
- Has a Metro Inspired UI.
- Read book in side by side view.
- Zoom in/Zoom out on a particular page.
- Navigate around PDF files using a page scrubber located on the side of the application window.
Another thing of interest particularly for developers is that this is the first AppX based application. AppX is a new type of packaged application model in Windows 8 which has a lot in common to that of Windows Phone 7 apps. There is a wide possibility that the same app model will be used in Windows Phone 8 aka Apollo.
Speaking of Windows 8, the first official Windows 8 wallpaper was leaked out no so long ago and can be downloaded from here. For future Windows 8 updates and coverage suggestions, advise us on Twitter, Facebook and subscribe to our RSS Feed.
