While there are so many things to be excited about the just launched Windows Phone 7, one thing that Microsoft’s latest mobile OS lacks is the essential capability of performing copy and paste operations. However it turns out that this feature won’t be staying in the missing column for long. Microsoft has announced that copy and paste feature will be making its way to Windows Phone 7 devices in early part of 2011.

A software update is what will it take to land this productivity enhancing feature on your Windows Phone 7. Don’t be surprised if you get some other features as part of the software update package. What these other features will be will become clear as the time progresses.

What we know about the about to go live copy/paste functionality is that it is headed in the right direction. CNET‘s Ina Fried got a taste of an early implementation of the said feature and according to her it works fine:

Copy and paste will work by letting users click on a particular word and then expand or contract their text selection from there. A separate paste icon will appear allowing users to paste text, though the look is not yet final.
