White iPhone 4 release date: Spring 2011

You know what time it is? It’s time to aboard the white iPhone 4 train. According to information sent by Apple to WSJ, White iPhone 4 still lives and will be made available for purchase in the Spring season.

White iPhone 4 has been one product which Apple would want to get out of its system as soon as possible. The phone was first demoed by Steve Jobs back in June 2010 at the iPhone 4 launch event. And after that the problems started. Apple found out that the phone was more challenging to manufacture than they had anticipated which led to a hatrick of delays.

Backlight leakage turned out to be the delaying factor which was thankfully resurrected with a magical paint from Japan.

Apple isn’t working on a Mini iPhone

Apple isn’t working on a nano iPhone

18 Feb

Muhammad Ali

Not exactly what you want to hear right? New York Times has published an article in which it citing sources familiar with Apple’s plans claims that there is no such thing as a Nano iPhone in Apple’s iPhone pipeline.

Here’s what the popular news publication had to say:

Apple is not currently developing a smaller iPhone, according to people briefed on Apple’s plans who requested anonymity because the plans are confidential.

It is believed that the Cupertinos are working on a cheaper iPhone model that will be controllable via voice commands. This rumored model will have a form factor similar to that of the iPhone 4.

Apple will achieve its target of a not so expensive iPhone by changing the internal components of the smartphone such as the camera, and the memory.

No jailbreak for iOS 4.0.2/3.2.2

No jailbreak for iOS 4.0.2/3.2.2

26 Aug
2010

Muhammad Ali

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it would be unjust to you if I let this pass by without sharing it with you. So here it goes – Dev Team have answered the will there be a jailbreak for devices running on  4.0.2/3.2.2 question and I am afraid it is a straight forward NO. Is there a ray of hope? Find out after the break.

Why such a move you ask? The intelligent jailbreak gang sees it useless to roll out jailbreak for firmwares that only fixes the jailbreak exploits as iOS 4.0.2 did:

No, there won’t be.  FW 4.0.2/3.2.2 was *only* released to fix the jailbreakme hole.  With FW 4.1 still in its beta stages, it makes no sense to escalate the “cat & mouse” with Apple for FW updates that only fix the jailbreak holes. To quote WOPR, “the only winning move is not to play”.

If the cat & mouse game escalates too quickly, especially during beta FW periods, nobody but Apple benefits.  For this reason, there won’t be a 4.0.2/3.2.2 jailbreak specifically during the period where 4.0.2/3.2.2 is the latest public release.  At best, some future 4.1x FW jailbreak *may* be compatible with 4.0.2/3.2.2 (but don’t count on that).

So here you have it folks -  those of you who upgraded your iPhone/iPod Touch to iOS 4.0.2 or iPad for that matter to iOS 3.2.2 are stuck with the firmware and won’t be part of the jailbreak paradise. However if you have iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G (non-MC) running on these no good firmwares, then redsn0w 0.9.5 Beta is your savior.

For those of you who have an iPad running on iOS 3.2.2 but have their iOS 3.2.1 in possession, here is how you can claim your jailbreak capability back.

Zune HD a possible competitor to iPod Touch

Zune HD a possible competitor to iPod Touch

This item was filled under [ Development ]

zunelogoFrom the look of things, it seems quite evident that Microsoft is preparing Zune HD as a potential competitor to its rival’s iPod touch. The portable media player from Microsoft is set to be launched this September in the US, Canada, UK, France and other European countries.

The features are as follows:

  • 3.6 inch OLED touchscreen.
  • NVIDIA Tegra powered.
  • Storage: 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, and 120GB versions.
  • HDMI Connection to stream straight to your TV.
  • HD Radio.
  • Web Browser.
  • WiFi compatible, with wireless marketplace.
  • Home AV packs, Car packs, Charge packs.

zunehdsnap

Zune HD is to be powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra chip, which is expected to the one announced at the Mobile World Congress 2008, Tegra 600 series. It is hoped that the Tegra chip will be faster than Apple’s second generation iPod touch’s chip whose speed is 532 MHz.

HDMI technology which is used for streaming content directly to the television, will be supported by the Tegra chip as well.

One thing where Zune HD might have an edge over its rival is the presence of HD radio. The radio feature is not a built-in feature when it comes to iPod Touch and can be purchased through Apple’s App store.

To make things even more interesting, Apple’s iPod Touch refresh cycle is expected to be in the same month in which Microsoft rolls out its next portable media player.

Firefox Mobile for Android first build released

Fennec for Android compiled and released, hardly stable

30 Mar
2010

Muhammad Ali

Guess who has decided to show on the Android phone to act as your browsing companion. Yup, you have guessed it, its none other than the much talked about Fennec for Android aka Firefox Mobile for Android. Hold your horses, it is not the official release, it is once again another piece of magnificence from the Android forum folks. MartinSchirr of Android Forums is your guy. Video has been provided as well which you can see after the jump.

The video shows the Firefox for Mobile running on Motorola Milestone. Unfortunately, the build is by no means stable. As you can tell from the video, the touch screen response is pretty apalling. In short , an unofficial build is written all over it. But it does signal one important thing – the ground work has been done and all that is left now is performance optimization which may or may not be the most important task.

A XDA guy by the name grainysand tried to run it on the mighty Nexus One, but had nothing to see but a black screen and a hanged device. However the browser became normal once the device was rebooted.
